Units in Orange are available for that stage, then leave.
Units in Blue have special requirements.
Units in Red previously joined, but from this point, are rendered unusable. Those lost permanently are marked so, while others rejoin later on.
Units in Green are upgrades for units already in your party.

The First Act

To get the Good Ending, you must finish the game on Hard by obtaining 41 or more Battle Masteries.
To unlock the first bonus chapter (52), 45 Battle Masteries must be obtained.
To unlock the bonus chapters (53-1 through 53-4), 50 Battle Masteries must be obtained.
