Story

In the far future, humanity is fighting a losing war with the alien Gamillans, who have turned Earth into a charred red planet with repeated attacks. Hope appears in a message from the planet Iscandar, providing humanity with the plans to a Wave Motion Engine and a promise that if they can fly to Iscandar, they will restore Earth to its former glory. The engine is installed onto a modified World War II-era Yamato battleship, and a crew is formed of the best soldiers, including protagonist Susumu Kodai, to set off for Iscandar.
