Talk:Makai Senki Disgaea/Fist Items
About weapon and item lists.
I'm still unsure whether Japanese or English names should go first. My intention in creating the section was to serve players of the import version, but of course I intend to provide the English names. I'll start putting them in once I have created the basic tables for all weapon types.Soluzar 08:53, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Specific Item Names
An attempt for a newbie to try to clear up some stuff.
I've gone through using my admittedly not-the-best Katakana reading skills to add in some of the things that I can read. There are a few I don't comprehend or have doubts about, which I'll mention here.
Rank 16, マッハパンチ - Mahha Punch? Mach Punch is what I'm putting down, but I am wholly uncertain on this.
Rank 17, トゲトゲ手袋 - Togetoge te something. If I remember my sound-effects right, togetoge is spiky; the first Kanji I know as "hand". Not sure on what the last one is.
Rank 18, バグ・ナク - Bagh Nahk; I remember the same fist-item being in Star Ocean: the Second Story, so I stole the spelling from there. More specifically, the 2MB+ size guide on GameFAQs with everything in there ever.
Rank 27, ミラージュ - Miraaji... Mirage?
Rank 28, カワンチャ - Kawasocha is the best romanisation I can come up with. No idea here.
Rank 40, アルムテン - Arumuten. Sorry, my brain has no romanisation for this one.
I left all the ones with Kanji alone, except when they're simple enough for me to know... I am of course assuming we wanted translations of the Japanese rather than just their English counterparts from Disgaea PS2 in place. Hope that's right. Of course, some cases that will definitely be the case, but I'm not sure for all cases.
I'm now gonna go through and try to do the same for the rest of them, so watch out :D Thefiendishpuppy 16:37, 20 May 2007 (EDT)
Rank 2; listed as Rock fist, but にぎりこぶし = clenched fist? Unsure as to whether it really needs changing, it is the english name after all...Thefiendishpuppy 08:38, 26 May 2007 (EDT)
袋 is bag. 手袋 is glove (not handbag! I made that mistake in the past) So "spiky glove" or "spiked glove".
カワンチャ = Kwancha probably - a Hindu term of which I honestly don't remember the precise significance...
As for アルムテン. Almace is the only legendary weapon I can think of that sounds similar, but it was a sword, and the pronunciation is different enough to suggest it's something else.
Also - てぢから sounded like it might be 手力, which I haven't seen before as a compound by itself. Power Hand makes sense as a translation if so. Layzner 18:30, 27 May 2007 (EDT)
RE: アルムテン - If it were only the "it's not a fist" issue, I'd use Almace. Spears include the Caladbolg (a sword), bows include Flamberge (the flame-blade sword http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamberge ), axes include the Balmung (another name for Gram, a sword) and Durandal (also a sword), staves include the Mjolnir (Thor's Hammer)... in short, I don't think "but it's not an X" is a valid reason when it comes to this game. :D
Still, it being pronounced so differently is an issue. I don't know what to suggest though! Thefiendishpuppy 12:47, 28 May 2007 (EDT)
