Talk:Super Robot Wars/T/Pilot Database
Hey, Silverclaw.
Excuse me, but how do my changes screw up the page formatting? I've changed 16 pages to look like that, and now you decide to say that it's wrong?
I do what I can to help the site and make it more user/newbie-friendly. But now you're suddenly start pulling this stuff. If it's about changing only several sections at a time, I'm sorry about that. But I don't have much free time, and can only do so much every few days.
If what I am doing is wrong, why didn't you tell me when I changed the SRW J Pilot Database? Why did you decide to wait until now to mention this?
Here's what I'm gonna do: I'm going to finish this page off-site. Then, when I'm done, replace the whole page at once. No sudden changes anymore.
If you have a problem with that, hit me up with an e-mail. Address in on my user page.
I'm not here for making arguments, I want this to be a discussion. I'll be waiting for your response.
BolticThunder.
Hey Boltic
So let's take your changes in order and why they were inapropriate :
1. You moved the banpresto originals section : the sections are classified in the same order as they appear in the game to match in-game data
2. You included in the default unit units that pilots subsequently get. The default unit is the unit the player first enters the game in.
3. You included the spirit commands for the main protagonist. This is highly inaccurate since spirit commands for the main protagonist are based on the bday. I actually altered that section to include a link to the bday page
4. You changed the formating of the sections you modified. a lot of work has been put in pages like this to make formating as easily readable as possible and coherent throughout the page.
5. If you remove the spirit commands and default unit changes mentioned earlier, none of your edits actually included information that wasn't previously available on the page.
For all these reasons I have therefore removed your edits.
As for your comment regarding J, I haven't worked on all the games, only on the ones I have played and I don't spend hours checking every single edit made on the wiki.
Regards,
Silverclaw
Hello Silverclaw.
Thank you for your response.
I've read them all, and I'll be going through them in order:
1. The reason I put the Banpresto Originals at the top is because, in my opinion, they are the most important part of the story.
Putting them there makes it easy to see who's going to be important.
However, your reasoning is valid, too. I will change the list I am working on to reflect this.
2. Yes, I include possible upgrades of units in the lists. I do this to make sure that people that play the games can plan ahead in possible strategies.
Should we change the name of the section, or do something else? I'd prefer the first option, but I would like to hear your opinion on this.
3.For the Spirit Commands, I used the Birthday page myself.
The top 3 sections are Saizo's, Sagiri's, and Terada's lists. I used the first 2 to make the list.
However, your idea is better. I will change my list accordingly.
4. I don't really understand this part, though. Could you give me an example, if you could?
5. My edits are more ascetically-based than anything. When new games need pages, clutter is to be expected.
Though, when coverage of a game is done, the pages often remain cluttered. And I don't like that.
I mainly clean up the clutter, to give to a nice, clean, and pleasing look.
On Pilot Database pages, the Skill Acquisition part is most often, frankly put, a clusterfuck of numbers and letters.
Making it easier to understand is also part of my goal.
As for the part about J, it was more based on the thought of: I've done so much work already, and now he decides to start bitching about it?
Please, don't take it personal, it was not meant that way.
Anyway, I've said my part. I'll be waiting on your response.
Kind regards,
BolticThunder
2. This topic, like so many others, has been discussed at length on discord I believe. "Default Unit" means the unit you get along with the pilot when you first that pilot first enters your team. And that's it. This way there is no ambiguity, no "what's this unit, how do I get it, how come I did not get it", it's simple and clear for all.
4. Work has been put into formating the tables, fixing in some cases column width to have a homogeneous formating (like what I did with pilot skills).
The most egregeous problem is that you come and edit a page that is for all intents and purposes complete. I spent a significant amount of time writing that page up with care to formating and with exhaustive, accurate information based on the game bibles and double-checked in-game. If you think pages that are already complete need to be reworked on, come and discuss the issue on discord and get a consensus opinion, like I've done numerous times. Don't come and change the work other people have done because you think your idea is better and therefore should be implemented without consulting anyone.
